Monthly Apartments Near Ikebukuro: Prices & Areas (2026)

Furnished monthly homes 6–10 minutes from Ikebukuro from ¥90,000 a month, utilities included, no key money or guarantor.

A furnished monthly apartment near Ikebukuro costs ¥90,000 to ¥180,000 a month (about US$600 to US$1,200) in our homes, and every one of them is 6 to 10 minutes by train from Ikebukuro Station. Rent includes electricity, gas, water and internet, and there is no key money, no guarantor and no agent fee. The minimum stay is one month.

We run nine furnished homes in northwest Tokyo. Five of them rent by the month: a studio and a 1LDK by Ekoda Station on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line, a 2DK by Tokiwadai Station on the Tobu Tojo Line, rooms in a shared house, and a whole 3-bedroom house. This page lists the real monthly price of each, what the rent covers, and how booking works, so you can decide in one read.

How much is a monthly apartment near Ikebukuro?

These are the current monthly rents for our homes. All of them are a short train ride from Ikebukuro, and all include utilities and Wi-Fi in the rent.

A few notes on reading the table:

  • Hasu House rents individual rooms. A second guest in the same room adds ¥20,000 (about US$130) a month, so a couple pays ¥110,000–¥120,000. The listing says female guests are preferred, but male guests can be discussed. Rooms fill up and open again as stays end, so ask for dates.
  • Sengawa House has a one-time cleaning fee of ¥20,000 (about US$130).
  • Prices are for the home, not per person, except at Hasu House.

Local train times come from the rail operators' timetables and vary a little by train. Ekoda is a local-only stop, so take the train marked local (kakueki teisha, all-stations) from Ikebukuro.

What is included in the monthly rent?

The number in the table is what you pay each month. There are no separate utility bills to set up in Japanese.

  • Utilities: electricity, gas and water are included.
  • Internet: Wi-Fi is included. Our houses use unlimited high-speed Wi-Fi.
  • Furniture and appliances: bed and bedding, air conditioning, fridge, microwave, kitchen with gas stove, cookware and dishes, and a washing machine. The Cozy Studio has its own private kitchen with a 3-burner gas stove, private shower and private toilet. Hasu House bedrooms each come with a desk, chair, closet and air conditioner.
  • Starter supplies: shampoo, soap, detergent and toilet paper are provided for the first few days. After that you buy your own, as you would in any home.

What is not charged: reikin (key money, a non-refundable gift to the landlord), a guarantor company fee, or an agent's commission. In a standard Tokyo lease these can add several months of rent before you move in. With a monthly contract you skip them, and you can leave after a month without breaking a two-year lease.

Why live one or two stops from Ikebukuro instead of in it?

Ikebukuro is one of the largest rail hubs in Tokyo. JR Yamanote, Saikyo and Shonan-Shinjuku Lines stop there, along with the Tokyo Metro Marunouchi, Yurakucho and Fukutoshin Lines and two private railways: the Seibu Ikebukuro Line heading west and the Tobu Tojo Line heading northwest. From the station you reach Shinjuku, Shibuya, Ueno and Tokyo Station without much effort.

The trade-off is the station area itself. East and west of the station are department stores, Sunshine City, game centers and late-night streets. It is a fun place to visit and a loud place to sleep, and apartments right by the station are mostly small one-room units in big buildings.

Ride the Seibu or Tobu line out for 6 to 10 minutes and the streets turn residential: low houses, local shopping streets, small parks and supermarkets. That is where our homes are. You still reach Ikebukuro faster than many people inside the Yamanote loop reach their office, and you come home to a quiet street.

In practice, our long-stay guests use Ikebukuro for transfers, shopping and evenings out, and live near Ekoda or Tokiwadai for everything else.

Seibu Ikebukuro Line or Tobu Tojo Line: which side should you pick?

Both lines start at Ikebukuro Station and run in different directions. Our homes sit on each one.

Ekoda on the Seibu Ikebukuro Line

Ekoda is the fourth station from Ikebukuro (after Shiinamachi and Higashi-Nagasaki). Local trains take about 7 minutes. Ekoda is a student town: Nihon University College of Art and Musashino Academia Musicae are near the station, so there are inexpensive restaurants, cafes and a long shopping street. Shinjuku is about 17 minutes away with one change at Ikebukuro.

The Cozy Studio is also a 12-minute walk from Kotake-mukaihara Station on the Tokyo Metro Yurakucho and Fukutoshin Lines, which gives you a direct ride to Shibuya without going through Ikebukuro.

Ekoda is also two stops from Nerima, where the Seibu Toshima Line branches to Toshimaen and the Warner Bros. Studio Tour Tokyo, and where you can change to the Toei Oedo Line.

Tokiwadai on the Tobu Tojo Line

Tokiwadai is five stops from Ikebukuro, about 10 minutes by train. The neighborhood was laid out by Tobu Railway in the mid-1930s as a planned garden-city estate, and it is still one of the quietest, greenest residential areas on the line. Our Tokiwadai House is an 8-minute walk from the station, and the listing gives about 22 minutes to Shinjuku and 26 minutes to Shibuya by train.

Who rents a monthly home near Ikebukuro?

Most of our monthly guests fall into a few groups.

  • People relocating to Tokyo who have a job offer but no long-term apartment yet. A monthly home gives you a furnished base from day one while you search, and an address close to Ikebukuro and Shinjuku for interviews and office days.
  • Students and exchange students at language schools and universities around Ikebukuro. A monthly contract matches a 3- or 6-month program, and nothing has to be bought and sold again at the end.
  • Remote workers who want a real kitchen, a washing machine and a quiet room for calls.
  • Families between homes, or visiting relatives, who need a whole house for a few months. The Ekoda Monthly House has three bedrooms.

Monthly apartment vs student dormitory vs hotel

If you are comparing options for a stay of one to six months, this is how they usually differ.

  • Dormitory: often cheaper and close to school, but rooms may be shared, rules can be strict (curfews, visitor limits) and privacy is limited.
  • Hotel: no contract and daily cleaning, but rooms are small, there is rarely a kitchen or washing machine, and a month adds up fast.
  • Monthly apartment: your own front door, kitchen and laundry; flexible length; furniture and utilities in one price. You clean it yourself.

If you want privacy and a normal daily routine, a monthly home usually wins once your stay passes about three weeks.

What to check before you rent near Ikebukuro

Walk to the station

Count the minutes from the door to the platform, not just the train time. A 3- to 8-minute walk keeps the commute short in summer heat, which often passes 35°C (95°F), and in winter rain.

Local or express

Many stations near Ikebukuro are served only by local trains. That is fine for a 7- to 10-minute ride, but check which trains stop at your station before you look at an express timetable.

Quiet streets

Homes a few minutes off the main road are noticeably quieter. All of our homes are on residential streets.

Internet and a place to work

If you study or work online, ask where you will sit for eight hours. A dining table is fine for a month; a bed is not.

Who you will deal with in English

Ask who answers when the water heater stops working on a Sunday. We handle our own homes and answer in English.

How do you book a monthly home with us?

  1. Pick a home from the table above or the full list on our furnished homes in Tokyo page.
  2. Send your dates and the number of guests through the room page. Tell us your move-in date and roughly how many months you need.
  3. We confirm availability and the total in writing in English: monthly rent, any one-time cleaning fee, and the dates.
  4. Sign a simple contract. There is no key money, no guarantor and no agent fee.
  5. Move in with your suitcase. Bedding, kitchenware and Wi-Fi are ready.

Monthly homes book up ahead of the spring move season (March and April) and the September semester start, so it helps to ask a month or two before you arrive.

Staying less than a month?

For shorter trips, our nightly houses in the same neighborhood work better. Nana House Ekoda, a 3-bedroom house near Ekoda Station, starts at ¥14,000 (about US$93) a night for 2 guests, with a 2-night minimum and an ¥8,000 (about US$53) cleaning fee per stay.

What is daily life like around Ikebukuro?

Living two stations out, Ikebukuro becomes your downtown. A few things our guests use it for:

  • Shopping: Seibu and Tobu department stores sit on top of the station, and Sunshine City to the east has a mall, an aquarium and an observation deck.
  • Food: ramen, sushi, izakaya (Japanese pubs) and international food in every price range, many open late.
  • Transfers: the Yamanote Line for central Tokyo, the Saikyo Line for Shinjuku and Shibuya, and the Narita Express on some departures.
  • Green space: Ikebukuro West Gate Park is a small open plaza next to the station. For bigger parks, the Seibu line takes you west toward Shakujii Park.

Day to day, you will shop at the supermarkets by Ekoda or Tokiwadai station and only go into Ikebukuro when you want to.
